The 2008 Fresh Fruit Share
1. The freshest top quality fruits in peak local season, picked to order and delivered within 24 hours of harvest.
2. VERY local, all fruit grown within 50 miles of Floyd. Supports REAL farmers and sustainable agriculture right here in our Blue Ridge backyard.
3. Wide variety of fruits throughout the season include: cherries, blueberries, raspberries, currants, blackberries, peaches, apricots, plums, several types of melons, pears, Asian pears, and many varieties of apples.
4. No-spray or low-spray sources preferred whenever possible.
5. Weekly "bag-notes" introduce you to fruit varieties, local growers and their practices as well as offer recipes, serving and storage suggestions, and bulk purchasing opportunities.
6. 16 -17 weekly shares beginning in late May to mid September. One extra delivery built into our schedule for your vacation flexibility and make-up share plan available for multiple vacation days.
7. Share values average $10.00-15.00 per week, depending on the cost of fruits included; weights range from 4-8 lbs. Weekly share quantities are estimated to satisfy two average fresh fruit lovers.
8. Share pick-up sites in Roanoke (Tuesdays at Roanoke Natural Foods), Blacksburg (Tuesdays at Village of Tom's Creek), Saturdays at Shadowlake Village and Blacksburg Farmers Market), Riner and Radford (Saturdays, sites to be determined) and Floyd (Tuesdays and Saturdays at the Greens Garage and Saturdays in downtown Floyd).
9. Only one share size is available. Multiple shares can be purchased for one household for greater supply.
10. Extra bulk purchasing opportunities at wholesale prices are advertised through bag notes to supply home canners/freezers and big eaters. Bulk fruits are delivered along with regular shares.
11. Single share cost pre-paid by April 25th is $215.00. A separate check is required for a $10.00 non-refundable registration fee. Households reserving multiple shares need only pay one registration fee.
12. Shares will be reserved on a first paid-first served basis. We have a limited amount of fruit shares available and we are historically sold out long before the registration deadline. Please reserve your share early.
