After experimenting for years with various growing mixes, we have settled on several options which we have found are the best performers, Sunshine, Black Gold and Coast of Maine. We feel these products are excellent in quality, consistency, and can perform well if you know how to use them. All of these new products have a limited amount of nutrients in them for sustaining plants. Therefore, you will need to either add some Harmony fertilizer to the mixes before potting; remember to move your transplants into larger pots as soon as they are ready; or be prepared to fertilize them with a liquid fertilizer such as Alaska Fish Emulsion 5-1-1 when you start to see signs of plant nutrient deficiencies. If you keep up with the fertilizer requirements these mixes will perform wonderfully.
In regards to moisture, when starting your mixes we recommend that you add some water if the soil mixes are not moist enough. This will help with the initial watering and allow good water penetration into the soil. Remember lighter mixes usually require watering more often.
