Overview
Down To Earth’s Oyster Shell is an all-natural and high-quality source of the essential plant nutrient calcium. Ancient oyster shells are carefully harvested and then ground into small, medium and coarse particles. These irregular shapes provide a sustained release of this valuable nutrient. DTE Oyster Shell also aids in improving structure of soils and building optimum tilth.
Apply according to soil test recommendations.
Vegetable Gardens & Flower Beds: To prepare new gardens, apply 2.5-5 lbs per 100 square feet and thoroughly mix into the top 3″ of garden soil in spring or fall. For new transplants, add 1-2 tsp per hole, mix into soil and water in well.
Outdoor Containers: For new plantings, add 1-2 tbsp per gallon of soil and mix thoroughly OR add 0.5-1 lb per cubic yard. For established plants, lightly mix 1-2 tbsp per gallon into the soil surface every other month during the growing season.
Lawns: In spring and fall, apply 2.5-5 lbs per 100 square feet and water in well. Results may be enhanced if applied following aeration.
Trees & Shrubs: Spread 1 lb per 1″ of trunk diameter around the base outwards to the drip line, mix into soil surface and water in well. For new trees, prepare transplant hole and mix 1-2 cups with the backfill soil. Use the amended soil to fill in around the new tree; water in well.
Row Crops/Acreage: Apply 500-2,000 lbs per acre initially followed by annual maintenance applications depending on soil analysis and crop requirements.
