An excellent source of organic matter, grows in marginal soils, reduces erosion and has an allelopathic action that suppresses weeds. Good at mopping up and conserving leftover nitrogen from heavily fertilized or manured crops. Very winter hardy. Also available in a 50 lb. bag
2.5 lb/1,000 sq ft or 100 lb/acre when sown alone, or 1.2 lb/1,000 sq ft 50-60 lb/acre when sown in mixture with a winter annual legume. Gardeners who don't rake it in may want higher rates, 3-4 lb/1,000 sq ft.
