Lacy Phacelia, Phacelia tanacetifolia, is a cool-season flowering broadleaf with frilled fern-like leaves and purple flowers. It is considered an insectary plant, is an excellent pollinator forage species, and is used extensively in Europe for bee forage, being one of the top 20 honey producing flowers. As a cover crop, it has excellent cold and drought tolerance, produces abundant biomass and conditions soil, leaving excellent structure and aggregation, and utilizes excess N in the soil to prevent leaching. Phacelia needs good soil to seed contact for germination.
